You have to keep in mind, with respect to Melissa's current event, that more taxes is helping nobody. every person, any age, has over $80,000 of debt because of government spending.
In response to Melissa's current event ~ Wow every single person is in debt $80,000? In my opinion our whole country is in a recession and should not be spending more money on any tourist attractions/making Portland larger. (In my opinion we should not bring more people into Portland, why not keep it our little secret? It's great here.) Why can't they continue to share the space like they are already doing? In the article it also said that we are in a job recession as well, and therefore people do not have to money to pay all the extra taxes.
I agree Melissa! Have there been any problems with the two teams sharing the space so far? It would be nice to have two stadiums, but we really don't need a second. Think about how much the money would do for our school system. With the money more teachers could be hired, making class sizes smaller, and getting each student a bit more individual attention.
I definitely agree with Melissa. Although it is challenging for two teams of different sports to share a space, in today's economy we all have to make sacrifices. With my knowledge of business, I can't imagine how funders would net much profit from this. Between the higher price of tickets (making the number of tickets sold drop) and the outrageous cost to build a stadium, why would people fund this? There are causes today that need money for the good of society, but building a new stadium does not fall into that category.
on Colin's current event i think that no one should have to pay for anyone else's school because the people that are probably sitting around eating cheeto's and watching tv all day instead of getting a job to pay for their own kids.
I just want people to know the beavers and the timbers cant share the space because MLS (major league soccer) won't allow diamond shaped stadiums for soccer. They can play on it now because there not a major league soccer team yet. One team has to move. Besides the stadium isn't even half full at any beavers games but the timbers games are packed.
For Colin's event, I think that it's pretty fair to charge wealthier people more, and less-wealthy people less. Lots of people are saying that people who are poor are just sitting around not doing anything about it. When really, poorer people work just as hard as wealthy people, if not more! And just because someone is poor, doesn't necessarily mean that they were a high school dropout, or that they didn't "apply" themselves. Now, those could be the reasons for some people, but for many others, either they were born into poverty, or something happened in their life that caused them to be poor. And besides, it doesn't matter what the parents did... Their children shouldn't be punished. All children deserve to have the same education, regardless of their family situation. And if you have plenty of money, you should share it with people who don't have enough. There are a lot of people who have more than enough money, and if they just put in a little extra for the people who needed it, more children would have a good learning environment to be in.
I think that it is a good idea to charge the wealthier people more. People who are poor need to be educated also and get a chance to lead a life that is better than the one they already lead. They deserve to be treated better instead of everyone saying that they are lazy. That is not true in all cases, or even most cases. I think that that is an unfair stereotype.
Oh SNAP Zofia! So well said!
In response to Mellissa's current event I do not believe that there should be any of our money put into the new stadium for the Beavers, since attendance is low anyways and they would probably see a drop in attendance since the stadium is being moved out of the city, and therefore I think it's not worth the money.
Good point Glen.
I disagree with melissa and teddy because eack team needs a place to practice and if they both have to have diffrent schedules then its fair for the amount of practice they are having. I understand the taxes and I think that is unfair and how much the stadium would be but maybe they have something else in mind instead of the school and the kids education. so in respect I think they should built a new stadium but not put taxes on it for other fans.
For Mellisa's current event, I think that they should not build another stadium. In today's economy, I think that building another stadium will not be financially wise. At PGE park, they can transform a soccer field to a baseball in less than two days.
In responce to melissa's current event.
I think that it would be fantiastic if the beavers had there own place to practice but i also agree with sage that we are already being taxed enough and people are already gearning up for more because of Obama. So it would be cruel to tax them just to make a place for a baseball team to practice.
Regarding Colin's current event, I do not think the rich should be the only ones that have higher taxes for school. Will's right, the people that the rich would be paying for are probably the ones sitting around doing nothing. I know that times are tough right now, but you have to put your family first and put your kids through school.
i belive we should keep as many troops at home. If we send them over seas there is a chance they will be killed. I think we should go with Biden's plan and move troops to the border.
Kaite :)
On colin's current event I think that everyone who has a kid should pay for there own kid.I understand that somepeople are born into poverty. They can't do anything about that, but some of them can get out of it. Instead the rich who have to work very hard for there money are giving it a way to people who don't work hard for money.
I definately disagree that the ones that need money for education are "sitting around." People that don't have money are usually the ones that work their butts off the most, because every pennie counts for them. And yes, a lot of wealthy people worked extremely hard for their money, but others may haved recieved it through inheritance, which means they did nothing to get it. I just feel that if you have more than someone else who really needs it, would it be that bad just to give a little? I'm sure it really wouldn't hurt anyone just to help out those who don't have the same opportunities as you. Everyone deserves a chance at education and happiness.
While Merritt Paulson is a millionaire he doesn't have enough money to just blow all his cash on an investment. ESPN and other sources have said Portland is soccer-city USA so is ridiculous that we don't have an MLS team. If you have ever been to a game, they are almost all sold out every game. This will also bring more people from different parts of the US into Portland. This will make Portland a more diverse city. The Portland metro area has about 1,000,000 people so if everybody gives $15 we can maybe add on to the stadium without creating too much pain for peoples wallets.
They shouldn't tax the rich more! Most rich people have worked hard to earn that money! they should tax all equally!
In my opinion Roman Polanski should go to jail for longer. It doesn't matter if the victim has forgiven him. He still wasted our country's time and money by essentially going on the run for 30 years.
For colins curent event I don't think that parents should have to pay for another school if they are already paying for a school that they're child is going to because it ust isn't fair for the people that have to pay taxes for schools that don't always need the money.
For Melissa's current event, I agree with Sage, if this guy owns both the Beavers and the Timbers, and he wants to have two stadiums, he should either pay for it alone or some other way. It's unreasonable to ask for people to pay for more taxes so that he could do have two stadiums. Some people don't even like the Timbers or the Beavers. Using the one stadium is and has been working out just fine.
In melissa's current event,
I think that it would be a waste of money to build that big of a stadium. Like thomas said, only about 1000 people go to games and the stadium would well have over that number. They should just add more seats to pge park. it has a fine crowd and the turf is okay also. Don't waste money on something you already have and people gave to you because of generosity.
I think that the beavers should not get funding for a new statium. I think that if they do they should tax the tickets for the games to pay for it becasue not everyone gose to the games so they should not tax people that dont care abut the statdium. The peole that want to statium can donate or jsut pay alittle extra for their ticket.
I think that, regarding Colin's current event the rich can afford to help more, so why shouldn't they. And again to repeat Zofia's VERY true words the poor are rarely poor because they don't work hard. Maybe they weren't given the education we are getting, so they couldn't get college lever education preventing them from getting the high paying jobs. Not to mention more people now who are very extremely qualified for the high paying jobs that are no longer available because of the state of the economy. The rich can afford to help those who can't help themselves.
P.S. Ms. Savage... my name is NOT spelled with an H!!
this is a test
